SOUTH GATEWAY ROTARY CHANGES ITS WEEKLY MEETING LOCATION & DAY!

As of Tuesday, January 31, 2012, South Gateway Rotary Club will be moving its weekly meeting from Thursdays to Tuesdays and from The Landing Restaurant on South Michigan St. to Logan's Restaurant located at 1320 E. Ireland Road, South Bend, IN 46614.

FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

REMINDER
Follow Rotarians,

At the meeting last at Logan’s we had twelve Rotarians and guests really enjoy  themselves at our new location. We all sat around a big square of tables and enjoyed great conversation and fellowship.

Now is the time to invite guests and visiting Rotarians to become a part of a new opportunity foe fun and fellowship. Both he food (ordered from the menu) and the service was good. There are a few wrinkles to iron out, but the site is very satisfactory.

IMPORTANT: Don’t forget—our next meeting will be at Logan’s on Ireland Road on TUESDAY, JANUARY 31. The decision was made at last week’s meeting to move our meeting day from Thursday back to Tuesday.

Thanks, Jerry Hunt.

COMMENTARY

A membership perspective—“Today’s generations support causes rather than organizations, and so we in Rotary should be able to clearly identify the causes that drive us. When somebody asks you what Rotary is, you do not have to fumble for words. Tell the person that we are an organization of service-minded individuals around the world who are working to make the world a better place with our efforts worldwide in water and sanitation, basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, disease prevention and treatment, economic and community development and peace and conflict resolution. That can all be said in 20 seconds or less! Plenty of organizations talk about issues, but Rotary is about action—not words.”
Bill Boyd, Past Rotary International President

THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER

A special thank you to all involved in the spaghetti dinner. Your help in setting up, taking down and selling tickets was absolutely great. At this time I am not sure what the fund raiser netted but once we total it up, I will let everyone know.

ALSO
We are moving the club assembly meeting to 11-10 (this Thursday). Please try to attend, as we need everyone’s input.

ALSO, ALSO
I had the chance over the last couple of weeks to visit the Down Town Club and the Roseland Club to promote the fundraiser. One thing I found out instantly--we are more funner (no such word) than all. Those folks are stuffed shirts! Anyway, note of interest, Roseland Club had several member come Thursday night. I thought was really good of them!

ALSO, ALSO, ALSO

Don’t forget the annual dues are due. If you are having a problem, see Penny or myself and we’ll work out a payment option.

………Thanks, Jerry Hunt

Happy Holidays!

THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER

“MONEYU”-ON-LINE Sr. HIGH YOUTH FINANCIAL EDUCATIONAL COURSE

1. If you haven’t had a chance to view this on-line program, I would highly recommend you do so. It is fantastic and very well done. The Board met with a representation from Riley’s pre-college classes to discuss sponsoring individuals in taking this course. The cost is $15 per student and I couldn’t think of a better more worthwhile project for us to be involved with. I really believe this should be open to adults as the concepts are ageless. Anyway, with our current financial situation, we are going to have a fundraiser to support this educational program at Riley High School. Please see the paragraph below explaining the Spaghetti Dinner fund raising project agreed to by the Board to be held here at The Landing on the Evening of October 27. The proceeds will be used to fund this educational program and the Riley High School Scholarship effort.

2. District Governor

Our District Governor will make his visit to our club on this Thursday, October 6. The Official Board will be there to meet with him at 11:00 AM.

3. Attendance:

Simply put, we need you and new folks. Please consider inviting someone to learn more about our club and Rotary International and all the good work we do in this community and worldwide.

4. Spaghetti Dinner

Our Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser will be held Thursday October 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at The Landing. Tickets will be $10 per person. Please do your part as a member by selling tickets to family and friends. Our Riley Interact Club will also be helping by selling tickets. Proceeds of the dinner will go to the MoneyU Literacy program as well as the Riley Scholarship goal. We are going to need several members to help set for up for the dinner at The Landing. It has been suggested that we meet at 10:00 AM prior to our regular meeting and set up at that time. Normally we would not have a meeting on the day of an event like this, but we have the Republican candidate for Mayor speaking to us that day.

Thanks, Jerry Hunt
